Council meets this Tuesday starting with a Special meeting at 4:00 p.m. where we will once again review the 2019 budget.

The full agenda is posted online but I’ve summarized some of the highlights here. The meeting gets under way at 5:00 p.m.

  • Road Allowance Closure & Sale Request
  • Revisions to the Draft Council-Staff Relations Policy
  • Updated report on Free Garbage Sticker Program
  • Canada Day Parade
  • Fire Station 5 Proposal

Last meeting the free garbage sticker program came up and the report did not include the 2018 usage numbers. In 2017 Council considered reviewing this program to reduce, cancel or investigate other options. The decision was deferred in light of the launch of the 2018 Clear Garbage Bag program and it is now coming back to Council for further discussion and direction.

The Canada Day Parade is on the agenda at my request. In 2018 myself and Julie Chatten volunteered to organize the parade after long-time volunteer organizer Annette Dunford decided to step down. I would like to see the Canada Day Parade be treated like the Santa Clause Parade and Remembrance Day Ceremonies in the sense that it be an official committee of Council. This move would allow for more staff support of the Canada Day Parade in terms of committee governance. Currently there is a call for volunteers for the Santa Clause Parade Committee and I would like to see that expand to include the Canada Day Parade.
