Recently both the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce and the Kawartha Chamber of Commerce and Tourism held their annual Business Excellence Awards. The past year has been hard on many businesses but the community rallied to support local as businesses constantly kept up with health protocols, supply chain issues and demand.
Although many of the businesses that were recognized are not in Douro Dummer Township, they have ties to the community. Business owners and their employees live or once lived in our community, they partner with organizations and other businesses in our community and together they lift up the area through their work.
As this area relies so heavily on tourism business, when one community does well, we all grow together. I personally want to thank all of the business owners who have persevered through these difficult times and to area residents who continue to support local businesses when they are able.
These events take a gargantuan effort on the part of Chamber staff, committee volunteers and are supported by a number of sponsors. My sincerest appreciation for all those who worked to bring these two events to life. Even virtually, it’s fantastic when we can bring people together to celebrate. It was a joy to be part of these events and connect with so many members of the community.
You will see a number of familiar names and faces in the lineup of finalists and sponsors. It’s also a chance to learn about other businesses and people in our area who are doing great things.
