I have been working hard to win this election and serve as Douro Ward Councillor.

In January of this year I began attending Council meetings regularly, reviewing the agendas and reports to understand what the issues are and how the decision making process looks in Douro Dummer. Prior to that, I had experience from working four years at Peterborough City Hall in the Office of the Mayor, attending every Council, Committee of the Whole and Planning Committee meeting, reviewing the agendas and watching our democratic process at work. As well, I completed a Diploma in Municipal Administration from the Association of Municipal Clerks, Treasurers of Ontario which is extensive study on municipal law, finance, administration and human resource management. This is in addition to a diploma in Marketing, a diploma in Human Resource Management and a Non-Profit Leadership Certification from Fleming College.

When I launched my campaign in May, I launched a website that I built. As well, I’ve been active on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; communicating with residents, responding to their calls, email and online messages. I began meeting with a number of community members, representing various interests around our farms, our neighbourhoods, our lakes. All to get a deeper understanding of what challenges people are faced with in the community and looking for solutions.

One of the many doors I’ve canvassed.

In August, I began canvassing residents in the community and until this point, I have knocked on the doors of more than 600 homes stretching from Clear Lake to the edges of Lakefield, down into Douro and along Division Road through to Donwood. Not everybody is home and some don’t want to talk; but others have invited me in, shared their concerns and introduced me to their neighbours. It is these intimate one on one conversations where I have had some enlightening and refreshing perspectives. Getting detailed knowledge of what is happening throughout our community.

In addition to informal canvassing, I’ve been invited to neighbourhood meetings where I’ve been able to hear from residents in particular neighbourhoods what their concerns are. I’ve attended events representing our business community, agriculture and have made a point of learning some of the issues from our township neighbours so I can work with them to solve areas of mutual concern.

There have been two All Candidtes Meetings that I attended and was the last to leave so I could ensure that every resident who wanted to meet was heard.

I have done my homework. I am willing to put in the time to get the job done. I want to serve this community well by bringing my best forward. I will be honoured to work for you when I’m elected as your Douro Ward Councillor.
